AECOM Engineers appointed on Unity Yorkshire scheme

The joint venture partnership behind one of Yorkshire’s largest regeneration projects has appointed multinational engineering firm AECOM to provide consultancy services for its 250-hectare (618-acre) scheme.

Unity, the mixed-use scheme located at Junction 5 of the M18 at Hatfield, Doncaster, is being delivered by joint venture partners Waystone and Hargreaves Land.

The scheme is set to deliver over 2 million sq.ft of employment space, 3,100 new homes, a new marina, school and transport hub. Over the next 20 years the development is expected to inject over £900m into the local economy and create up to 7,000 jobs.

AECOM is one the world’s premier infrastructure firms, delivering professional services throughout the project lifecycle – from planning, design and engineering to consulting and construction management. The firm partners with clients in the public and private sectors to solve complex challenges and build legacies for generations to come.

Tim Benson, associate at AECOM’s Chesterfield office commented: “This is a scheme of huge regional importance and we are delighted to be leading the engineering input into the development. We will build on over 15 years’ input to development in the area, and are keen to help realise the bold ambitions of the Unity scheme. We look forward to working with the JV partners and the rest of the design team as a long-term partner on this major regeneration project.”

Unity has already seen significant investment in the creation of a new 2.9km link road which is due to complete before the end of 2020. This new road from junction 5 of the M18 motorway (where the M180 joins the M18) connects to Hatfield, Dunscroft and Stainforth, thereby improving access to the nearby railway station and the motorway network.

Alistair McLoughlin, director of the JV added: “AECOM has played a key role in many of Waystone’s successful regeneration schemes and we look forward to continuing to work with them at Unity, drawing on their wide ranging engineering expertise and experience to help us successfully deliver one of largest regeneration and infrastructure projects of its kind in the UK.”
